ITINERARY

 

PRE-TREK BRIEFING

You will have thorough briefing with your tour guide 1 or 2 days before your Short Inca Trail.

Your guide will meet you at your hotel and you can take this opportunity to ask questions and make any final preparations.

DAY 1: CUSCO – CHACHABAMBA (KM 104) – WIÑAY WAYNA – MACHU PICCHU – AGUAS CALIENTES TOWN

We will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco very early in the morning and then we will drive to Ollantaytambo´s train station and take the train to the point called Kilometer 104, which is three hours from Cusco in total, of which two hours by bus and 1 more hour by train to get there. At the Km 104 we will start our hike crossing the Inca Trail checkpoint where we will explore our first archaeological site called Chachabamba (2,170 m / 7,170 ft).

Once we finish exploring Chachabamba we will start our hike again and we will  gradually ascend for about 2 or 3 hours, depending our pace, and climb the Inka stone steps. A long this Inka trail we will pass a beautiful waterfall before arriving at the archaeological site called Wiñay Wayna at (2,650 m / 8,700 ft). We will climb to the top of the ruins and enjoy the lunch with an incredible view of Wiñay Wayna and the Urubamba Valley. We will continue our hike for about 2 more hours to reach our goal and the highest point which is the Sun Gate (2,720 m / 8,920 ft).This is where we will get our first view of Machu Picchu. We will descend for about 45 min to finally reach the citadel of Machu Picchu and we will take a few pictures of the famous post card view of Machu Picchu. After taking our pictures we will take the bus down to Aguas Calientes town where we will go to your hotel. Dinner will be in one of the restaurants.

DAY 2: MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO

You will have breakfast at your hotel and after we will take one of the first busses to Machu Picchu archaeological site. Once there, you will be given a 2 hour walking tour of the site. If you have chosen to climb Wayna Picchu mountain, you will start the hike at 10 AM. If you are not climbing the mountain you will have free time to explore Machu Picchu before you return to Aguas Calientes town by bus. Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes town you will board the train to Ollantaytambo. From Ollantaytambo you will travel by private van to Cusco and we will drop you off at your hotel. Arrival time in Cusco depends on the time of your return train ticket.

Finally we will visit Andahuaylillas, where we will appreciate a beautiful church.

Around 1.30 pm we will return to Cusco, where we will arrive at 3 pm.
